The box appears to be a sturdy wooden crate. The lid bears an X shape, which is likely a form of reinforcement. It is also noteworthy that the lid appears to be slightly bigger than the box, suggesting it may have not been there originally. The walls of the container appear to be quite thick, probably providing insulation for the food inside.
